Add a visitor map

Posted by Michael Bloch in web development (Thursday September 6, 2007 )

While it increase your sales? Probably not. Will it help you win friends and influence people?.. hrm.. unlikely. Still, putting a map on your site where visitors can easily add their location, photo and a message is a nice little interactive novelty that can help you connect a little more with them. Here’s a widget that takes under a minute to configure.

Google Earth opened up a whole new world (bad pun) and all sorts of nifty applications, aka widgets, have been developed as a result. Last week, I mentioned that it’s now super-duper easy to add a Google interactive satellite/directory map of your business location (or any other place) to your web site to help customers find you.

If you’d like to learn a little more about who your visitors are and where they come from, try implementing a Frappr map. It’s free, dead simple to implement. Here’s how it looks:

Click on the map and drag it across to Australia and you’ll see my pin or click on my photo in the left hand bar . While you’re messing around with it – add your own :).

There are other customizations you can make to your map widget – fonts, colors, and size – there’s also a photo and “forum” module that I haven’t played around with as yet. Check out Frappr.com for more details. If you add a map to your site, let me know – I’ll visit and leave my mark :).

  1. Hi Michael,

I couldn’t see the Frappr map. It’s a blank space and I couldn’t click on it.

  2. Hi Ludo, seems the Frappr map service was down for a little while – seems to be working fine now.
