Writing articles or instructions for your customers and need to use an example domain name? There is a domain set aside specifically for this purpose.
The domain name is.. drum roll please …
example.com
Pretty amazing huh? Am I the last person on the planet to know this useful tidbit? I’ve used all sorts of domain names in my tutorials and articles for examples.. jlkjkfldjfk.com, yourdomain.com etc. I had no idea this arrangement existed until a few days ago.
“example.com”, “example.net” and “example.org” were reserved back in 1999 for use in documentation and will never be available for registration. So go forth and use example.com to your heart’s content, secure in the knowledge folks won’t go to a domain name you use for examples in documentation and perhaps see something nasty.
Thank you Michael, I must say I had not heard of example.com either.
Your site rocks!I learn something with every visit.
