Comment relish

Relish comments? Let your readers know you do with this handy WordPress plugin.

Comment relish sends a welcome email to readers who comment on your blog for the first time. It’s very easy to set up and you’re able to personalize the message via your WordPress admin interface. Various tags are available to automatically insert the person’s name in the email, the URL of the post they commented on etc.

I’ve only just started testing it and it seems to be working well. I was a little concerned that it would attempt to email all the spambots that hit this blog hundreds of times daily, but it only emails the person if it makes it past Akismet and once you’ve approved their comment (if you hold comments in a moderation queue).

It’s a great way of welcoming first-time commenters via email if you don’t have the time to do so yourself – and there’s certainly nothing stopping you from following up with a more personal note later on. Comment Relish also gives you an opportunity to point the commenter to other useful resources you have available, e.g. a reminder about your RSS feed, newsletter subscription page or special offers you might be running.

Check out Comment Relish and kudos to Justin Shattuck, the developer of the plugin.
